This is a stunning example of a rarely seen intaglio cut bowl from the ‘Intaglio’ range produced by Chance Glass from 1957.
The bowl is rounded with a flat base. It has a flint glass interior with a layer of ruby glass on the exterior. This has then been cut through to reveal the flint glass layer. This method is called ‘intaglio’.
This range was produced in three colours – ruby, blue and opal. It is believed to have been in production from 1957 and continued for two to three years. The pieces were of high quality and were subsequently far more expensive than the printed Fiestaware.
The bowl has a height of approximately 5.7cm and a diameter across the rim of about 21.9cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. There are some enclosed bubbles in the flint glass layer that look like streaks. These are manufacturing artefacts and do not detract from the piece in any way.
