This is a retro piece of kitchenalia from the ‘Stripes’ range by Hornsea.
The jam pot has a cylindrical body, stepping in at the base. It is transfer printed with vertical stripes in red. In addition, the word ‘JAM’ is also printed in red twice around the body. The lid is of flattened discoid form with a central discoid knop. There is a notch in the edge of the lid to allow for a teaspoon.
It is marked on the underside in blue with the words ‘HORNSEA ENGLAND’.
‘Stripes’ is a popular Hornsea design that was only in production for two years, from 1984-1986. This is an example of the highly collectible red and white version.
It has a height to the knop of approximately 11.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.7cm and across the base of about 6.6cm.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few scratches to the red transfer pattern. This wear is reflected in the price.
