This is a good example of a moulded German pottery flower vase.
The flared rim tapers inwards and then flares out again to give a lower rounded portion. The body is decorated with matt bands of glaze in brick red, yellow, dark green and cream. The body has then been incised with a tool to form small leaf-shaped diagonal gouges. These show the underlying ceramic body to be off-white in colour. Over this has been applied a thin streaky brown coloured glaze.
The base of the vase has ‘DEE CEE FOREIGN’ and the figures ‘116 20’ impressed into it. ‘Dee Cee’ stands for Desmond Cooper, who was a Birmingham wholesaler for a variety of potteries.
From my reading on the subject I gather that the first figure 116 corresponds to the pattern number and the second number, in the case of a vase, refers to the approximate height in centimetres.
The height of the vase to the rim is about 20.3cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 11.2cm and at the base of about 8.0cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
