This is a beautiful example of a solid silver serving spoon by John and Henry Lias of London and dating to 1848.
The large ladle is decorated with an intricate scroll and shell pattern along the handle and on the reverse. There is a fine lion engraved in the scrolling on the front of the handle. The reverse is marked with the stamps for London 1848 and the letters 'J.L H.L'. This is the manufacturers mark for John and Henry Lias of London.
The ladle has a length of approximately 33.0cm.
It is in excellent condition for its age, although there is a deep linear mark on the reverse of the bowl. It is not a dent and does not show through to the inside of the bowl.
