This is a high quality cut lead crystal tankard from the ‘Ascot’ suite by Royal Brierley Crystal.
The tankard is approximately cylindrical in shape, tapering in towards the rim. The body is cut in its lower half with two rows of interlocking criss-crosses. The crosses on the lowermost row are intersected by an elongated vertical wedge cut. This divides the body in to panels. Above the centre of each cross on the uppermost row is a vertical wedge cut. The handle is plain and is attached just below the rim and again just above the discoid base. The latter is star cut and marked on the edge with the words ‘ROYAL BRIERLEY’.
It has a height of approximately 11.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.7cm and across the base of about 8.5cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
